Denmark is now becoming the first country in the European Union to lift all restrictions, despite the record number of cases. They rely on a high level of vaccination to fight Omicron. After the first attempt to lift all restrictions between September and November, the Scandinavian country is again doing away with masks, Covid passes and limited hours for bars and restaurants. Nightclubs will reopen today, when the restriction on the number of people indoors will also be lifted. Only some restrictions remain at the country’s borders for unvaccinated travelers arriving from non-Schengen countries. The easing of restrictions comes amid the fact that there are about 40,000 to 50,000 new cases of Covid each day in Denmark, nearly one percent of the country’s 5.8 million residents. “We have extremely high coverage of adults who have received three doses of the vaccine,” epidemiologist Lone Simonsen of Roskilde University told AFP.
